Professional Education:
All of us at Smiles by Design regularly attend educational seminars and annual professional society meetings. We not only attend educational and training seminars on a regular basis, but we make sure that we are well-informed regarding new equipment, new procedures and the very latest technology. This is so that we can constantly adopt and include new techniques, new procedures and new equipment into our practice. We feel strongly that investing in professional education results in superior patient care. Occasionally, we are asked to conduct seminars or speak on topics related to cosmetic dental care.

In 2006 Dr. Howes became a sustaining member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry which is the definitive organization that deals with the myriad aspects of clinical cosmetic dental care.  Dr. Howes continues to actively pursue the most advanced techniques available for cosmetic dentistry and is on track to become an accredited member of this distinguished Academy.  Somthing that only a very small percentage of dentist have done world wide.

In the field of Neuromuscular dental care Dr. Howes remains one of the few dentist in the Tri-Valley area that can provide this non-invasive type of treatment to patients that suffer from a wide range of pain problems including migraine headaches, TMJ problems and chronic pain in the head and neck.  This new field has continued to progress rapidly and Dr. Howes and his staff have completed a number of courses to stay up with the latest improvements in this area of treatment.

Dr. Howes is also a member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry which is the leading organization in the use of lasers for treatment of dental problems.  Dr. Howes remains one of only a few dentists to use this new and innovative mode of treating dental disease and has developed a unique protocal for the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease.
